Sentimental Dildo Helps Partners Remember Their Deceased Loved Ones

The way that we remember loved ones is a personal experience. So is masturbation. Often, they begin at the same time. When a partner passes away, the other is left to handle their own sexual desires. This can be emotional, though, as the absence of the partner becomes conspicuous. What if you could use this time to remember your partner in a positive way? What if you could preserve their smell, and find a way to always be reminded of them? Maybe play your “special song” as you do it? 21 Grams answers these questions. Born of a beautiful conversation and friendship, Dutch designer Mark Strukenboom has created a new, and beautiful, method of remembrance.

What is 21 Grams?

Perhaps one of the most sentimental sex toys ever created, 21 Grams provides a new way to memorialize a loved one. A glass blown dildo, 21 Grams is fitted with a small urn for the ashes of a woman’s dead spouse. With 21 Grams, a woman is able to remain faithful without losing out on any fun. The toy itself is absolutely stunning, and a worthy memorial.

However, the dildo isn’t the only thing that makes 21 Grams so special. The toy comes in a box made of layered wood, and fitted with several other accessories. The box is locked, and can be opened with a brass key. Once opened, the boxes arms and drawers can be pulled out, much like a jewelry box. The box also has a scent diffuser, which can be filled with cologne or perfume as a reminder of the spouse who has passed away. A phone or iPod can be plugged into the box, which has speakers to play a couple’s “special song,” as well. The design of the box is also spacious, especially with the additional drawers. It’s meant to hold keepsakes and other reminders of a loved one gone.

The device was unveiled at Milan Design Week, and was met with mixed response. No one was able to find flaws in the design itself, though. There is no doubt in the beauty of 21 Grams, and it’s unique purpose. It is undeniable that the design has created a new perspective for many widows, granting them a new way to mourn and remember.

The Origin of 21 Grams

21 Grams is not an idea that came from nowhere, and neither is the name.It was once believed that 21 grams was the weight of a human soul. In that way, the name is meant to symbolize that the dildo holds not just a physical representation of the partner, but their memory.

The origin of the idea is a beautiful story, as well. Dutch designer Mark Strukenboom was inspired by a conversation with a friend. That friend was an elderly woman, whose spouse had recently passed away. Strukenboom hasn’t gone too far into the details of the conversation, but they clearly got sexual. With her in mind, Strukenboom set out to create something to help widows remember their husbands. Thus, he came up with 21 Grams.

Is There Beauty in 21 Grams?

In many ways, 21 Grams has been divisive since it’s announcement. It is the view of many that the toy is somehow disrespectful to the memory of the person who has passed. The viewpoint is not entirely invalid. In some ways, 21 Grams challenges tradition in a way that might cause exclusion. For example, 21 Grams is not something that many would readily share with their children. In this way, it may cause a slight schism with any other family members. However, there is no reason that all of the remains must be left in the toy. Used responsibly, 21 Grams should cause no issues with the family.

In the sex positive world that we are beginning to live in, the beauty of 21 Grams is readily apparent. This type of memorial is incredibly unique, with no other product doing anything similar. It allows a widow to keep their relationship alive even beyond the life of one of its participants. While the love can no longer be requited, many choose to live that way regardless. 21 Grams eases this process by providing a method for the widow to be sexually satisfied. It begs the question: can a widow not have fun while remaining faithful?
